Umpiring is one of the most important aspects of any Little League Program. As our league continues to grow, additional umpires are needed to cover the additional games. Please consider joining our all-volunteer force.  No experience is necessary - FREE training is provided by our experienced umpires.  We even offer On the Job Training if you missed the offseason training!  There are incentives to umpiring in addition to the joys of a front row seat to watching a child's first hit, for example, if you attend training and umpire in just 5 games, one child's registration is FREE.  We also provide the equipment to get behind the plate!  More information on the extensive incentive program can be found below.

For more details or to volunteer please email the SCLL Umpire in Chief, Tim Evans.

Umpire Incentive Program

In an effort to show our volunteer umpires our appreciation for their hard work and dedication to our league, and to help equip the umpires going forward, Spotsylvania County Little League has instituted the following incentive program.  The incentive program is meant to reimburse some of the many expenses taken on by our volunteers.  These new incentives as well as previous incentives, are now documented here.  Thanks Blue!

Umpire Training

Whether you're new to Little League umpiring or a long-time veteran, umpiring can be intimidating.  SCLL has developed a fun and exciting training and education program to help you learn how to umpire or refresh your umpire skills.  Please consider joining our umpire crew.  No previous experience is necessary.

In preparation for the upcoming season, Spotsylvania County Little League will be holding various umpire clinics.  The foundation of any good umpiring or coaching experience is a knowledge of the rule book and the mechanics of working the game. Please consider attending all or as many sessions as you can. These sessions will help you learn the basics of being a Little League umpire. The field clinics are of primary importance because they offer you the opportunity to learn the basics of how to be an umpire and provide you the practice before you get onto the field in a real game.

Scheduling Website

SCLL uses a custom site to schedule umpire coverage.  The website allows for assigning oneself to games and will send automated emails alerting umpires of schedule openings.  The website also has links to useful information, game history, and incentive tracking. Sign up for your account at https://www.scllumpires.org.  Note that your account needs to be activated by the administrator before being able to schedule yourself for games.
